| Welcome to the PLATYPUS THEATER Dear students, English teachers and friends On the 5th of June we celebrated our 25th Anniversary in the ufaFabrik with around 200 guests. Speeches were given by Professor Wolfgang Nickel, Alice Ströver from the Green Party and Mardi Wu from the Australian Embassy. Teachers were awarded prizes and the Platypus Choir sang a parody of "In the Year 2525", written by Kim Eustice. The fantastic weather was perfect for the buffet and the barbecue on the terrace, Diane Busutil performed a brilliant tap dance act. Frank Szardenings did a great job as DJ, there was a groovy atmosphere on the dance floor as everyone danced off the calories they had put on eating the very rich but very delicious chocolate cake. Thanks to everybody for your birthday wishes, presents and this great evening! The best 25th birthday present was the news which we received on the 3rd June that our funding for the next two years was guaranteed. This will enable us to do three new projects in 2010 and 2011. Work has begun on our project for 2010, an adaptation of the T.C Boyle Novel “The Tortilla Curtain”. We’ve just had the first round of rehearsals. It’s a very stimulating and exciting task to put this book into a theatrical form. The premiere will be on the 4th November in the ufaFabrik. The play is aimed at senior high school students and adults. Two classes from the Johann-August-Zeune school for blind students developed the play FIRST DATE, an adaptation of TEENAGERS IN TROUBLE, directed by Mala Ghedia. The final presentation took place on the 30th of June at the auditorium in the Johann-August-Zeune-Schule. ACTION GIRLS, the cooperation project with the Carl-Friedrich-Zelter-Oberschule, Willy-Brandt-Oberschule and Carl-von-Ossietzky-Gesamtschule ended on the 1st of July 2010 at 7 pm in the ufaFabrik with the presentation of four short movies. About 70 girls were taught basics acrobatics by Carrie Hampel, stage fighting, simple stunts and camera work. The girls developed short scenes and filmed them. We would like to thank the Projektfonds kulturelle Bildung for the financial support of these two cooperation projects. Have a great Summer. The Platypus team. Just a reminder that you can view short film segments of most of our plays on our web site. Click on “plays”, choose one play, then scroll down until you find the camera symbol. Click on the camera and enjoy the film! It's worth having a look at our performance dates on our website. The performance dates on the web site are regularly updated and any new dates will also be found there. If you want to see a performance on a particular date but you find it is booked out, don’t despair! We often put on an extra performance at 9:15 a.m. These 9:15 a.m. performances are not always listed up on our programme, so please ring us up and ask us or send us an email. | ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | |
